L. Allison Garde
Of Counsel

Practice Areas:
Corporate and Business Transactions
Taxation, Trusts and Estates

Allison Garde is Of Counsel to the firm and is a member of the Taxation, Trusts and Estates Group.  For more than twenty years, she has assisted clients with regard to all aspects of estate planning, estate and trust administration, charitable and planned giving, probate and trust litigation, asset protection issues, guardianships and elder law matters.  In counseling her clients with regard to the implementation of their estate plans, Ms. Garde strives to balance the twin goals of minimizing gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer taxes with the clients’ personal goals concerning the transmission of their wealth to their loved ones and charitable institutions.  She advises individuals on structuring lifetime gifts to family members and charitable organizations, and assists clients in planning for family members with special needs.

Ms. Garde also represents individual and corporate fiduciaries in the administration and timely settlement of estates and trusts.  She advises her clients on post-mortem tax planning, preparation of federal and state estate and inheritance tax returns, judicial interpretation of trust and testamentary documents, accountings, and other estate and trust settlement issues.  Ms. Garde is experienced in handling estate and inheritance tax audits before the federal and New  Jersey taxing authorities.

Ms. Garde is a fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel.  She was recognized as a New Jersey “Super Lawyer” in 2005 and 2006.  She serves on advisory committees and governing boards for several charitable and academic institutions.

Ms. Garde is a frequent lecturer to financial institutions, fellow lawyers and community organizations with regard to estate planning issues, changes in the laws governing probate matters and the state and federal taxation of estates and trusts, and charitable giving.  In addition, as a member of the New Jersey Uniform Probate Code Committee, Ms. Garde was an active participant in the drafting, review and enactment in 2004 of a substantial revision to the New Jersey statutes governing estate and trust matters.
