Kathleen J. Devlin

Kathleen J. Devlin is an Associate in Coughlin Duffy’s Insurance and Reinsurance Group. Ms. Devlin has significant experience representing insurance companies with regard to coverage issues relating to various types of insurance policies, including Comprehensive General Liability, Directors and Officers, Errors and Omissions, Employment Practices Liability, Legal and Accounting Professional Liability, Commercial Property and Casualty, and Public Entity and Public Officials.  She has defended and prosecuted declaratory judgment actions on a wide range of sophisticated insurance coverage issues.  In the management of coverage cases, Ms. Devlin represents the interests of insurers in coverage disputes in many areas, including environmental, toxic tort, construction defect, commercial matters, public entity, public officials and professional liability.  She has addressed numerous coverage issues and disputes through coverage opinions, arbitration, mediation, and declaratory judgment actions.

Ms. Devlin also has experience in handling complex civil litigation matters.   She has experience in toxic tort and mass tort litigation, including the Mahwah Toxic Dump Mass Tort Litigation, asbestos, arsenic, lead and benzene exposure cases.  She also handles First Amendment and library law matters.  Ms. Devlin has considerable experience in handling appeals.

Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Devlin accepted a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Robert T. Quackenboss and the Honorable Joseph C. Messina for the 1993-1994 court term in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Middlesex County.  She was then an Associate in the Litigation and Environmental Coverage Departments of Purcell, Ries, Shannon, Mulcahy & O’Neill until 2000.  Thereafter, she was Counsel at Scarinci Hollenbeck in its Litigation Department and Insurance Group until joining Coughlin Duffy in 2011.
