Adam M. Smith is a Partner with firm. Mr. Smith concentrates his practice in the areas of insurance and reinsurance coverage litigation. He has extensive experience litigating complex insurance coverage disputes on behalf of insurers and reinsurers in jurisdictions across the nation. He has litigated matters and counseled clients with respect to wide variety of claims concerning comprehensive general liability, professional liability, directors and officers, errors and omissions, medical stop loss and first party property insurance policies.
Mr. Smith has extensive experience counseling clients and litigating matters related to insurance coverage for long tail claims and mass torts. He successfully litigated numerous matters related to insurance coverage for asbestos bodily injury claims. He has substantial experience with disputes arising out of the Wellington Agreement. Mr. Smith also has significant experience representing insurers involved in asbestos bankruptcies. He has represented dozens of London and European market insurers in complex asbestos bankruptcy matters and related parallel proceedings. Mr. Smith has also counseled clients regarding the effect of federal and state tort reform and its potential impact on asbestos liabilities.
Mr. Smith received his B.A. degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1990. Upon graduation from Fordham University School of Law, Mr. Smith became associated with the New Jersey office of Mendes & Mount, LLP where he concentrated his practice in the areas of insurance coverage litigation, product liability and professional malpractice. He became a Partner in the firm in 2001, and he remained with the firm until 2005. Mr. Smith joined Coughlin Duffy LLP in March 2005 and became a Member in July 2006.
Mr. Smith is a frequent speaker at events organized by the American Bar Association, Mealey’s Publications and the CPCU Society.
