H. Lockwood Miller, III is Of Counsel to the Firm. He has extensive civil litigation experience across a broad range of substantive matters at both the trial and the appellate level in the state and federal courts in New Jersey and other jurisdictions. His substantive litigation practice includes pharmaceuticals, medical devices, toxic torts, products liability matters, environmental cases, general commercial litigation, insurance coverage, personal injury defense, and employment matters.
Mr. Miller focuses a significant portion of his practice on the defense of pharmaceuticals and medical devices and their manufacturers in both single-plaintiff cases and large, consolidated mass torts. He has litigated multiple matters involving a host of different prescription and over-the-counter medications, vaccines, and surgical devices, including: phenylpropanolamine cough and cold products, cholesterol-lowering medications, polio vaccines, prescription antibiotics, implantable contraceptives, factor concentrate, paramagnetic contrast agents, weight loss medications, hormone replacement therapy, gastro-intestinal motility and bowel medications, laparoscopic surgical devices, and surgical sutures and needles.
Mr. Miller also has defended a wide variety of other products liability and toxic tort matters, including asbestos, cosmetics and personal care products, lead paint, chemicals and chemical compounds, household and consumer products, material handling equipment, airline service equipment, alarm and signaling systems, industrial products, and playground equipment.
Mr. Miller joined Coughlin Duffy LLP at its inception after beginning his career with Shanley & Fisher, P.C./Drinker Biddle & Reath, LLP and later McElroy, Deutsch & Mulvaney, LLP, where he was actively involved in all phases of defense litigation, including trials and appeals.
